Cardiology Cirriculum


The following rotations will be completed at Garden City Hospital and associated practices:

  • Clinical Cardiology: 8 months
  • Echocardiography: 4 months
  • Stress testing: 4 months
  • Cardiac cath lab: 4 months
  • Research and conferences: 2 months (maximum)
  • Electives: 2 months

The following rotations are completed at affiliated instutions:

  • Electrophysiology: 2 months, St. John Hospital
  • Cardiac surgery: 1 month, Oakwood Hospital
  • Outside elective rotations: 9 months - requires program director approval


  • Journal Club: meets bimonthly; articles of special interest are selected or approved by the program director and are presented by the fellow. Analysis of content, relevance and scientific and statistically validity are discussed.
  • Echo Conference: meets bimonthly for chapter review and discussion of the Echo Manual Presentation of instructive or interesting echocardiograms.
  • Cath Conference: meets weekly for chapter review and discussion of Grossman and Baim. Presentation of instructive or interesting cases.
  • Braunwald: a reading schedule is provided for this core textbook
  • Cardiology Grand Rounds or Evening Lecture Series: guest speaker series at least quarterly, with recognized special expertise in an area of cardiovascular medicine.
  • EKG Conference: one to two times per month as part of general house staff lecture series
  • Mayo Clinic Board Cardiology Review: independent study
  • Statewide Campus System (SCS) Education Days


Call is scheduled on a rotating basis and may be taken from home. The on-call fellow is expected to be promptly available for any acute consultations in the emergency department or inpatient units, and to respond for all cath lab cases.
